Mischief

This evening I took the boys to Macy’s hoping they’d behave long enough to purchase some dress pants for Jeff. I HOPED we would get what we needed and be on our merry way. Well, apparently I am an optimist. Despite the good behavior quiz before leaving our vehicle, Wyatt was still a little monster. Running through racks, running away, tackling his brother. Basically doing everything I instructed him not to do.

The final straw was when Wyatt tried to introduce himself to the mannequin. Every respectable introduction is accompanied by a handshake, right? Wyatt grabs the mannequin hand and gives it a good yank. Imagine the look of horror on my face when the hand goes sailing through the air! The boys were laughing hysterically. Even I couldn’t help myself. Did that just happen? I tried to cover up my smile. (Maybe they would buy into the gesture as astonishment, because we all know any self respecting mother wouldn’t encourage such antics. wink ) I stepped over to the chaos, tried to put the mannequins hand back on. By now Wyatt thought it was so funny he was attempting another amputation on the other side. Futile were my efforts at restoring calm. So, I left the hand on ground and hurried home.

As we were leaving, I was reading Wyatt the riot act. Some guy was within ear shot and listening to me list off all his misdeeds. When I got to the very last one, (hand removal) even he couldn’t help laughing out loud.

Lesson learned, Wyatt needs to remain locked in a stoller while we are in a store. Heaven only know what that child might devise now that he knows those fake people come apart, AND it’s really really funny!
